Dec. 17, 2007 Phillips Re-appointed to Sound Transit BoardThe Metropolitan King County Council today unanimously approved Councilmember Larry Phillips’ re-appointment to the Sound Transit Board for a second four-year term.“Transportation is the most pressing issue facing the region,” said Councilmember Phillips. “My work on the Sound Transit Board is an opportunity to provide mobility options for people to get to work and home to their families. Building a mass transit system is a critical component of the decades of work I have done fighting for growth effective management and preservation of natural resources. I thank Executive Sims and my council colleagues for this appointment and look forward to continuing to represent the citizens of Seattle and the region in their pursuit of transportation solutions.” Phillips has served as an active member on the Sound Transit Board since 2004. Through his work as chair of the Central Link Oversight Committee, Phillips has kept a strict watch over the cost, schedule, and progress of light rail construction. Phillips has championed regionalism over parochialism and advocated for transportation projects that foster density and smart growth. In his next four years on the board, Phillips said he plans to continue to push for the initial segment of light rail to open on time and on budget, and to advocate for expanded mobility options such as rail extensions to Northgate, downtown Bellevue, and beyond. “The work of building a regional transportation system continues,” said Phillips. “Voters rejected Proposition 1, but they very much want their elected leaders to come back with something better—especially for transit. I’m up to that challenge.” |
