2005 Update to the King County Comprehensive Plan
After five months of work, the King County Council on July 25, 2005, adopted the four ordinances that make up the 2005 Update to the King County Comprehensive Plan.
The Executive transmitted the four ordinances on March 1, 2005, as part of the Executive Proposed 2005 Amendments to the Comp Plan. The Council’s Growth Management and Unincorporated Areas Committee heard public testimony on the 2005 Update ordinances on March 1, April 5, April 19, and May 17. The full King County Council heard public testimony on July 11 and 25.
The ordinances include amendments to KCCP Policies, area zoning and land use, P-suffice conditions, Special District Overlays, and implementing codes. Key changes:
- Allow for the future expansion of the Vashon-Maury Island Service Center.
- Allow live theater, artists’ studios and specialized instructional schools on industrial-zoned properties in the Vashon Rural Town.
- Remove outdated special zoning requirements to clear the way for construction of Vashon Household’s Sunflower affordable housing project.
- Rezone several parcels in White Center to allow for economic growth in the surrounding neighborhood.
- Correct an error affecting churches in rural areas.
- Create rules affecting campgrounds for children and the disabled.
