Healthy Vending Guidelines

G&R11-02

Pursuant to its authority under RCW 70.05.060 and 70.160.080, the King County Board of Health hereby gives notice of proposed guidelines and recommendations titled Healthy Vending Guidelines. The goal of the Healthy Vending Guidelines is to increase access to healthy food and beverages in vending machines. The guidelines use a foods-based approach, rather than simply looking at calories, fat, sugar and sodium. The guidelines are available for use across King County by public and private entities including, worksites, local governments, hospitals, social service organizations, childcare and after-school care programs, and schools. Guidelines and recommendations are advisory only, and do not have the force and effect of law.

A public hearing on the proposed guidelines and recommendations at which the public may state their views orally or in writing will be held during the regular meeting of the King County Board of Health, April 21, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Metropolitan King County Council Chambers, 10th floor, Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA. Written comments can also be submitted to: King County Board of Health, ATTN: Maria Wood, Public Health – Seattle & King County, 401 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1300, Seattle, WA 98104; maria.wood@kingcounty.gov. Written comments mailed or delivered to this address must be received by 5 p.m. on the day preceding the Board of Health meeting.
