NOTICE OF RULEMAKING – BOH 17-03
Pursuant to its authority under RCW 70.05.060, the King County Board of Health hereby gives notice of proposed rulemaking to adopt revisions to the Board of Health Rabies Regulations.
The purpose of the proposed rulemaking is to adopt updated veterinary standards for managing dogs, cats, ferrets and livestock that have been exposed to suspected or confirmed rabid animals. The rule and regulation:
- Adds a definition regarding confinement of animals exposed to suspected or confirmed rabid animals;
- Updates the reference to the Compendium of Animal Rabies Prevention and Control from the 2011 edition to the 2016 edition published by the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians; and
- Revises the requirements for managing vaccinated and unvaccinated dogs, cats, ferrets and livestock that have been exposed to confirmed or suspected rabid animals, including confinement requirements.
A public hearing on the proposed rule at which the public may state their views orally or in writing will be held during the regular meeting of the King County Board of Health, April 20, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Metropolitan King County Council Chambers, 10th floor, Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA. Written comments mailed or delivered to this address must be received by 5 p.m. on the day preceding the Board of Health meeting.
