King County Board of Health
NOTICE OF RULEMAKING
BOH11-05
Regulation on Farmers Market Permit Fees
Pursuant to its authority under RCW 70.05.060, the King County Board of Health hereby gives notice of proposed rulemaking to amend the permit fees for farmers markets.
The purpose of the proposed amendment is to align the cost of permits charged to farmers markets as a whole with the costs of training and inspections to ensure compliance with facility standards and safe food handling and preparation requirements at farmers markets. The proposed amendment replaces the one-hundred dollar flat fee charged to farmers market coordinators with a three-tiered farmers market permit fee of either zero dollars, three-hundred twenty dollars, or five-hundred twenty dollars based on the types of foods offered at the markets. The amendment makes no changes to the food establishment permit fees paid by the participating food vendors at farmers markets. The amendment also makes a correction to the definition of seasonal food establishments as operating for no more than ten consecutive months in a year, rather than six consecutive months.
A public hearing on the proposed rule at which the public may state their views orally or in writing will be held during the regular meeting of the King County Board of Health, December 15, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Metropolitan King County Council Chambers, 10th floor, Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA. Written comments can also be submitted to: King County Board of Health, ATTN: Maria Wood, Public Health – Seattle & King County, 401 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1300, Seattle, WA 98104; maria.wood@kingcounty.gov. Written comments mailed or delivered to this address must be received by 5 p.m. on the day preceding the Board of Health meeting. Written comments may also be submitted at the Board of Health meeting.
