Council unanimously adopts 2010 King County Budget

2010 Budget Leadership Team.At its Nov. 23 meeting, the Metropolitan King County Council gave its unanimous approval to a $5.001 billion 2010 King County Budget that closes the County’s $56 million budget gap while preserving basic services for County residents.

The overall budget contains no net new taxes and is $12 million lower than the $5.013 billion proposed by the County Executive. It cuts 311 full-time equivalent employee positions (FTE’s), 60 more than that proposed by the Executive. It makes targeted efficiencies in order to preserve nearly all current funding for public safety and criminal justice and avert threatened cuts to Metro bus service.

The adopted budget is the culmination of a process that began with the delivery of the Executive Proposed Budget on Sept. 27. It involved five public hearings that over 800 people attended and seven weeks of deliberations and negotiations by the Council's Budget and Fiscal Management Committee, which was led by the Budget Leadership Team of Larry Gossett, Jane Hague, Kathy Lambert and Julia Patterson.
