Network Strategic Plan
The Network Strategic Plan has been completed and approved. This strategic plan supports our vision of evolving to a single IP network infrastructure and associated operations that provide for improved and cost effective network availability, reliability, versatility, flexibility, and security to support the County’s business needs now and in the future.
Wi-Fi Network Services
The potential benefits of wireless technology go far beyond public hotspots. The use of wireless technology internally has great potential for improving the delivery of services to the public, and our wireless strategy is based on that vision. A new centralized Wi-Fi platform has been introduced with added features that enable easier installation and improved network management capabilities.
The King County Public Access Network (KCPAN) was completed in April 2006 with public wireless service now available at 20 King County locations as follows:

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Telephone Service
Installation of the VoIP telephone service is complete and has been functioning since June of 2007.
DNS Stabilization/Upgrade
An alternatives analysis has been completed for DNS stabilization and path forward for the upgrade to a consolidated DNS service. The recommended solution has been approved by the CIO.
