Green River Utilities and Communication Infrastructure Purpose and Objective: King County citizens, business, and government agencies are currently facing the possibility of severe flooding in the Green River Valley as a result of structural issues with the Howard Hanson Dam. As a regional leader and major service provider, King County is interested in minimizing the impacts of flooding while continuing to provide services and coordinating efforts to ensure the best regional response possible. In order to minimize the impact of flooding, communication and coordination is needed across many service providers. Mitigation and response work has begun with local utilities, telecommunication companies, transportation providers, government officials (at the city, county, state, and federal levels), and other critical stakeholders. David Martinez, King County’s Chief Information Officer, is leading the coordination effort to provide necessary information to stakeholders in preparation for this emergency event.
