Joel Chaplin

Joel Chaplin is the CIO and Vice President of IT at Virtuoso. Virtuoso is a luxury travel network that comprises over 6,000 elite travel specialists and more than 1,000 travel

providers and destinations worldwide. Mr. Chaplin is responsible for building and managing the technology platform that is used to connect suppliers with specialists who sell complete travel experiences to their high end clientele.

Previously, Mr. Chaplin was the Senior Vice President of IT Operations and Enterprise Systems at Motricity, a leading provider of mobile content services and solutions. Mr. Chaplin came to Motricity through the acquisition of Infospace Mobile. In Mr. Chaplin’s nine year tenure at Infospace, he led them from a startup with a single data center in Redmond to a company with a global technology presence. Mr. Chaplin was responsible for continuous improvement of service quality across all products and ensuring that Infospace consistently met and exceeded the stringent service level targets up to 5 9’s of availability required by its mobile carrier customers. Mr. Chaplin has also led the company through numerous acquisition integrations, as well as consolidating and streamlining operations to maintain effective and cost efficient operations.

Previous to Infospace, Mr. Chaplin was the Director of Technical Operations at Go2Net, an online search and directory company, where he managed the rapid growth of their production infrastructure and associated support teams. Mr. Chaplin also led the technical integration activities when Go2Net merged with InfoSpace in 2000, and moved into the Vice President of Operations role for InfoSpace in 2001.

Prior to joining Go2Net, Mr. Chaplin served for over a decade in a variety of technical management and leadership roles at the Boeing Company.

Mr. Chaplin is a Washington State native and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in business administration in 1986.
