New for 2018: You have a third health plan option—KingCare Select—to consider during Open Enrollment, Nov. 1 – 15.

Selecting a medical plan

King County is introducing KingCare Select, which joins KingCare and Kaiser Permanente's SmartCare Connect, as one of three medical plan options in 2018.

Check out all three options and make an informed decision on which plan is best suited for you and your family.

Watch a video about how to choose a medical plan that's right for you.

Things to keep in mind:

  • If you have coverage through another employer’s medical plan, you may opt out of medical coverage and receive an additional $65 in monthly pay, taxed as ordinary income.
  • When you cover a spouse/state-registered domestic partner who has access to medical coverage through an employer, you will pay a monthly Benefit Access Fee for your spouse/domestic partner’s coverage. Note: There is no Benefit Access Fee for Regular and Deputy Sheriff employees who choose Kaiser's SmartCare Connect medical plan.
  • If you and your spouse/state-registered domestic partner are both county employees, you may not cover each other as dependents, however you may each cover eligible children up to age 26.
