King County furlough 2009
During 2009 most of King County Government is shutting down for ten furlough days. Most staff will be on unpaid leave and limited county services and offices will be available on furlough days.
Due to budget constraints, the county will shut down most of its major facilities on 10 specific days in 2009, requiring mandated unpaid leave by all furlough-eligible county employees.
On furlough days, most King County buildings and services will be closed except the following, which will be open and operating:
Metro bus service will operate a normal schedule
Prosecuting Attorney's Office will be open for the October 12 furlough
Youth Service Center
King County Courthouse
King County Regional Communications and Emergency Service Center (911)
Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center
District Courts will be open in all locations
2nd floor of the North District Multi-Service Center
Health Point portion of the Federal Way Public Health Facility
1st floor of Yesler Building (half day)
Goat Hill Garage will have normal operations.
Office of the Public Defender (OPD) offices are open at the Maleng Regional Justice Center; Juvenile Court, 1211 E. Alder Street, Third Floor, Seattle; and the Walthew Building, 123 Third Avenue, Fourth Floor, Seattle for eligibility screening and assignment of counsel for Superior Court and Juvenile Court cases. Other Office of Public Defender offices are closed.
King County Council: Some Council staff who have taken alternate furlough days will be at work. If you have an appointment, please use the phone and directory by the Council entrance on the 12th floor of the Courthouse to call your contact.

School-based teen health centers, school-based dental sealant program, and SNAC education program
The STD Clinic at Harborview Medical Center will be open, however counseling and some testing procedures may not be available during furlough days. For additional questions about STD clinic availability, please call 206-744-3590.
The Public Health Laboratory will be closed on furlough days, but lab specimens may be dropped off in the drop-box at the front door between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If a building or office is not on the list above, it will be closed.
