Feb. 4, 2010 Haq Sentenced for His 2006 Attack on the Jewish FederationOn January 14, defendant Naveed Haq was sentenced to a mandatory term of life in prison without possibility of release after he was convicted of Aggravated First Degree Murder, three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Malicious Harassment ("hate crime") for his armed attack of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle in July of 2006. At trial, Haq unsuccessfully asserted that he was not guilty by reason of insanity. He alleged that he did not know right from wrong at the time of the shooting. His initial trial ended in a hung jury, but Haq was tried a second time and convicted of all counts. The close of the case brings resolution to our State's worst hate crime. Senior DPA Don Raz and Assistant Chief Criminal Deputy Erin Ehlert did an outstanding job handling the prosecution of this case. Return to the News |
