May 4, 2009 May 13 Drug Court GraduationKing County Drug Court, now in its 15th year, continues to be a model program, offering addicted offenders the opportunity for drug treatment in lieu of prison. Participants undergo a rigorous program of both in-patient and out-patient treatment, followed by court monitoring of counseling, meetings and drug testing. If the participant successfully completes the program, the criminal charges are dismissed. Many graduates enter the program after decades of serious drug addiction and leave Drug Court with jobs, family reconciliation and with a new outlook on life. Each graduating class also represents approximately $1 million in prison cost savings. The dismissal of the charges happens at a special graduation ceremony held in the Presiding Courtroom four times a year. The next graduation ceremony is scheduled for May 13 at 9:00 a.m. at the King County Courthouse in Room E-942. All are welcome to attend and join in congratulating the participants for beating drug addition. Return to the News
