March 1, 2009 Curtis Thompson -- Guilty of First-Degree Rape Defendant Curtis Thompson was convicted last week of First-Degree Rape, First-Degree Burglary, and Taking Motor Vehicle for breaking into a woman's Eastlake home, attacking her, and stealing her car. After the sexual assault, the defendant rubbed bleach into the victim's skin in an attempt to destroy any DNA evidence of his crime. The defendant now faces life in prison without possibility of release under Washington's "Two Strikes and You're Out" law for sexual assaults. This is the second conviction stemming from an August 2004 violent crime spree that resulted in numerous charges against the defendant and three separate trials. The defendant's crime spree took place shortly after efforts to have him civilly committed as a Sexually Violent Predator were unsuccessful. Last fall, the defendant was convicted of multiple felony charges for his attack on two women in a University District apartment lobby. Next month, the defendant will be tried for the 2004 murder of Deborah Byers. Return to the News
