June 4, 2009 Loren Miller Bar Association Honors DPADPA Sarah Odonkor was named "Young Lawyer of the Year" by the Loren Miller Bar Association (LMBA) at its 40th Anniversary Gala on May 15. The LMBA is a statewide organization and a local affiliate of the National Bar Association, which is the oldest minority bar and the largest organization of African American attorneys in the United States. The LMBA was founded in 1968, and is named after Loren Miller, a famous civil rights attorney who successfully argued before the United States Supreme Court that the judicial enforcement of a race-based restrictive covenant preventing African Americans from owning land violated the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution. See Shelley v. Kraemer, 334 U.S. 1 (1948). Congratulations, Sarah, on this outstanding achievement! Return to the News |
