June 4, 2009 Formerly Truant PAO Recognizes Academic AchievementOn May 28, the PAO recognized 22 students, who were formerly truant and in serious danger of dropping out of school, during its annual Academic Awareness Awards Ceremony. These 22 students were recognized and praised for overcoming great obstacles, making the decision to return to school, and achieving academic success. By making the decision to return to school and graduate from high school, these students have guaranteed themselves a better life. Seventy-five percent of state prison inmates are high school dropouts. High school dropouts are 3.5 times more likely than graduates to be incarcerated. Fifty-five percent of unemployed young adults are high school dropouts, but those who graduate from high school will, over the course of their lives, earn an average of $260,000 more than high school drop outs. It pays to go to school and to invest in education. Return to the News |
