State v. Aslanyan: Defendant Edo Aslanyan was convicted of Assault in the First Degree with a Firearm Enhancement for shooting a man in the arm and back in a tavern parking lot in Auburn. At trial, the defendant unsuccessfully claimed that he shot the victim in self-defense after the victim "head-butted" him. The defendant now faces a standard-range sentence of 14 to 16 years in prison. Senior DPA Dan Soukup handled the prosecution of this case.

State v. Barkoff & Ryther: Defendants Clifford Barkoff and Michael Ryther were convicted of Burglary in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment, Kidnapping Second Degree, and Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Permission for breaking into a Queen Anne residence, beating the homeowner, tying him up with duct tape, robbing him, and stealing his car. The defendants now face a sentence of 14 years in prison. A third defendant in this case has yet to be tried, but if convicted, faces a potential life sentence under Washington's "Three Strikes and You're Out" law. Senior DPAs Corinn Bohn and Andy Hamilton handled the prosecution of this case.

State v. Horton: Defendant James Horton, age 30, was convicted of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Attempting to Elude a Pursuing Police Vehicle for stealing a Mustang and leading police on a high-speed chase. These crimes were the defendant's 29th and 30th felony convictions, and were committed while the defendant was on warrant status from community custody. In light of the defendant's lengthy criminal history, the court sentenced him to an exceptional sentence of up to 80 months (6.6 years) in prison.

State v. Jackson: Defendant Quentin Jackson was convicted of two counts of Assault in the Second Degree -- Domestic Violence and one count of Felony Harassment -- Domestic Violence for pointing a loaded firearm at his wife and strangling her in the presence of her two-year-old daughter and 11-year- old son. The defendant now faces a standard-range sentence of four to five years in prison, but the PAO plans to seek an exceptional sentence of 8 to 10 years in prison because he used a firearm during the commission of the crimes. DPA Zac Hostetter handled the prosecution of this case.

State v. Williams: Defendant Taliferro Williams was convicted of two counts of Assault in the Third Degree for an unusual attack on two Seattle Police officers where he repeatedly stabbed one officer in the leg with a hemostat (an instrument used to compress a bleeding blood vessel). The defendant now faces a standard-range sentence of one year in jail, but the PAO plans to seek an exceptional sentence of 5 years in prison based on the fact that the defendant's attack took place only hours after he had been released from jail on a prior charge. DPA Jennifer Miller handled the prosecution of this case.
