Dec. 7, 2009 CTI DPA Named Prosecutor of the YearCongratulations to Senior DPA Shaya Calvo, who was recently named "Auto Theft Prosecutor of the Year" by the Governor's Washington State Auto Theft Prevention Authority (WATPA) for his role in reducing the reported number of car thefts in King County by a whopping 53%, down from 17,500 in 2005 to fewer than 8,500 in 2008. The number of reported car thefts is expected to drop to 7,500 for all of 2009. In addition to this prestigious award, King County detectives honored Shaya in their own way earlier this year when Shaya bet detectives that they could not get the reported number of car thefts to under 10,000 in 2008. Shaya good-naturedly agreed to let detectives shave his head when he lost the bet. Shaya: Thanks for all your haired -- we mean hard -- work! Return to the News
