Dec. 7, 2009 CASE UPDATES: December 2009Rapist Targets Juvenile Runaway: State v. Biel: Defendant John Biel has been convicted of Second Degree Rape for picking up a 14-year-old runaway at a bus shelter in Kent, taking her to his apartment, and raping her. The defendant now faces 78-102 months in prison at sentencing, which is currently scheduled for January 6, 2010 at 8:30 am in Judge Laura Middaugh's courtroom at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. DPA Matt Anderson handled the prosecution of this case. Return to the News Forging Checks: State v. Lewis: Defendant Shadora Lewis has been convicted of Forgery for taking a valid business check, "washing" the real payment amount from the check, and filling in fraudulent payment information. The defendant tried to recruit someone to help her cash the fraudulent check. Instead, her "recruit" called the police and assisted them in a sting operation that allowed them to catch the defendant in action. The defendant now faces over a year in prison at sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled. DPA Suzanne Love handled the prosecution of this case. Return to the News Violent Drug Deal: State v. Moore: 17-year-old defendant Domanique Moore pleaded guilty as charged to First Degree Murder for killing a man during an attempt to steal several ounces of marijuana from the victim. Because the murder charge included a firearm sentencing enhancement, the defendant now faces 30 years in prison at the time of sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled by the court. Stanley: Defendant Gabriel Stanley was convicted of Second Degree Robbery for punching a convenience store customer in the face and taking his wallet. The defendant targeted his victim because he was intoxicated and vulnerable to attack. The defendant now faces a standard range sentence of over one year in prison.
