Seattle TV Show Highlights

The Complexities of Drug Addiction

Dan Satterberg appeared on a recent episode of the television show "City Inside/Out," hosted by C.R. Douglas.  On the show, Dan participated in a panel discussion regarding a current legislative proposal to further reduce prison sentences for some drug crimes.   This discussion highlighted the complexities surrounding drug addiction, recognized the effectiveness of drug courts and drug treatment, and highlighted several steps prosecutors across the state have taken to help reduce the state prisons' drug population from 22% down to 13%.

It was Norm Maleng's innovative proposal to shorten drug sentence lengths for certain drug crimes, capture the resulting savings, and create the Criminal Justice Treatment Account (CJTA), which funds drug courts and drug treatment.   King County's portion of the CJTA is approximately $2 million per year.  To watch this show, click on this link.
