Shaving Down the Number of Car Thefts

haircutSenior DPA Shaya Calvo, head of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office (PAO's) Car Theft Initiative (CTI), promised detectives that he would shave his head if the number of reported car thefts in King County dropped below 10,000 in 2008.  Detectives worked hard to ensure that Calvo would have to make good on his promise. In 2008, there were only 8,300 reported car thefts, down from 11,269 in 2007, 15,447 in 2006, and 17,694 in 2005.  In a mere three-year period of time, car thefts in King County have been reduced by 53%.  Shaya, with the assistance of many detectives, received his new "do" on March 4.
