Victim Advocate Volunteer Program

Thank you for your interest in the Volunteer Program within the Domestic Violence Unit of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.   We are currently recruiting volunteers for summer internships to assist our domestic violence legal advocates.  If you are interested in volunteering with the Domestic Violence Unit, please feel free to contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Sandra Shanahan at Sandra.Shanahan@kingcounty.gov.  For a copy of the application, click here.

Our volunteer needs vary throughout the year and are most dependent on current staffing levels.  We make the following types of volunteer placements (with a preference for longer term placements or placements of people with prior domestic violence victim advocacy training or experience):

  • College/graduate school internships

  • Traditional volunteer placements

  • JustServe Americorps positions (see below)

We place volunteers in the following areas of our Domestic Violence Unit:

  • Protection Order Advocacy (assisting survivors of domestic violence as they petition the court for protection orders)

  • Felony Advocacy Services (assisting survivors of domestic violence through the criminal prosecution)

  • District Court Advocacy Services (Misdemeanors) (assisting survivors of domestic violence through the criminal prosecution)

Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer opportunities, please e-mail Sandra Shanahan or call 206-296-9700.

JustServe Americorps positions are initiated through the JustServe Program at Solid Ground.
