Budget

I am currently chair of the 2009 Budget Review and Adoption Committee, overseeing the 2009 budget. I also served as King County's budget chair in 2002 and 2003, during King County's budget crisis. Due to annexations and incorporations, steeply rising health care costs, voter approved initiatives, and a tax structure inadequate for serving an urban county, King County has faced annual deficits in our general fund that have forced budget cuts of over $120 million since 2002. We have worked hard to create a lean, efficient government without sacrificing the quality of services we provide.
