Phillips calls for cutting passenger ferry tax, funding bus transit instead

With bus service at risk of drastic cuts at a time when money is slated for increasing passenger ferry service, Councilmember Phillips proposed cutting the Ferry District tax levy to $0 in 2010 in order to make tax dollars available to keep Metro buses running. With King County facing a $100 million budget deficit over the next two years, Councilmember Phillips introduced legislation calling for action to clearly identify areas where the state has mandated services to be provided by King County, without also providing the means to pay for them. Read more.
