Biography

 Official Portrait -- Jane HagueJane Hague’s government service is about leadership, effectiveness and results. She is in her fourth term on the King County Council, serving since 1994. In July, 2000 she was elected as President of the National Association of Counties (NACo), serving the needs of over 2000 counties at the federal level. Prior to her election to the King County Council, Jane was a member of the Bellevue City Council while serving as Manager of King County Records and Elections Division. Jane was also president of the Washington Association of Counties and she has served as the chair of the King County Council. She has lived in King County since 1969. Jane currently represents District 6, which includes Bellevue, Kirkland, Mercer Island and Redmond.

As a member of the Metropolitan King County Council, Jane has served as chair of the Budget and Growth Management Committees, as well as the Council’s Law and Justice Committee. She was the chair of the full council in 1996 and 1997, during her first term in office. She currently chairs the Physical Environment Committee, which oversees growth management, the environment and transportation.

She has won numerous awards including local legislator of the year by the National Association of Homebuilders, Citizen of the Year by the Kirkland Business and Professional Women, and the Public Service Award by the American Society of Public Administrators. The King County Boys and Girls Clubs honored her as their Children’s Champion in 2003, and Standing Ovation, the Eastside arts umbrella, honored her efforts on behalf of the arts.

Jane has been active with a number of philanthropic endeavors including the Bellevue Rotary Club, King County Boys and Girls Clubs, Bellevue Community College Foundation, and the Youth Eastside Services. She lives in Kirkland with her husband, Ed Springman. They have climbed many of the world’s highest peaks and are long-distance cyclists.
