Woodinville

Wilmot Gateway ParkAn early logging outpost northeast of Seattle, Woodinville takes its name from its first recorded settlers, Ira and Susan Woodin, who made their way up the Sammamish River by rowboat in 1871. The Woodins' civic spirit gave rise to the city's first school, which the couple opened in their parlor to a group of nine pupils ranging in age from five to 14. As the land was cleared, new residents developed a farming economy. Dairy farms and truck gardens sprouted across the Sammamish Valley to serve the growing Seattle market. The 1960s construction of Interstate 405 accelerated commercial and industrial development, and today the highway brings wines of international stature to markets around the world.

Incorporated by vote of the citizens in 1993, Woodinville is home to 10,000 residents but draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year who enjoy its nurseries, wineries and small-town atmosphere.

King County maintains a satellite office in Woodinville to provide residents with greater access to County government. Stop by the Cottage Lake Community Service Center (19145 NE Woodinville-Duvall Road, Tel. 206-296-2733) and register to vote, obtain a pet license, find out what bus to take, and get information on marriage licensing, property assessments and other King County services. Open Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon - 7:00pm (closed 3:30 - 4:00 for lunch) and Fridays from 10:00am - 5:00pm (closed 2:00 - 2:30 for lunch). Click here for directions.
