Lake Forest Park
 Incorporated in 1961, Lake Forest Park features three square miles of rolling hills northeast of Seattle which descend gracefully to the Lake Washington shore. Once a winter village for the Snohomish Indians, Lake Forest Park became one of Washington's first planned communities in 1909 thanks to Ole Hanson, a developer with a vision. Hanson planned a naturally-forested residential area where people of even modest means could live in harmony with nature. "Here the laughing waters will forever make gladsome the hearts of the sylvan dwellers," he wrote in a famous promotional brochure. Roads were built according to the contours of the surrounding hills to contrast with Seattle's rectilinear and fast expanding road grid. Lake Forest Park has grown to nearly 4000 residents, and commercial developments have sprung up, but the city still prides itself on being a diverse and densely forested lakefront residential community.
